Today on a press conference Donald Tusk appealed to clerks and officials to “refuse to participate in murky intrigues of Jarosław Kaczyński”. Tusk also declared that Civic Platform will “watch the hands of those in power, precisely monitor abusing authority by middle- and higher-class officials”. No decision made by prosecutors, police officers, judges or ministers that violates the law will be left unpunished.”
These words appalled Karol Karski, a member of the parliament from PiS, who said that Tusk’s statement “resembled a call for coup”. We’d like to remind Mr Karski who seems to lack knowledge of Poland’s modern history, that such calls for coups have already taken place…
The PiS’s appeal which shocked the Prime Minister was announced in their statement concerning concessions for building motorways. Law and Justice calls the state officials to “disobey anti-economical decisions of Belka’s government. For to avoid repetition of the situation known from Rywingate scandal, where probably due to some pressure the lower-grade officials took on the responsibility for decisions that result with official prosecutions”. PiS also promises “extensive support for all officials who dare to speak up”.

As the CIA used to say, knowledge is the greatest weapon. Tomorrow Mr Konrad Kornatowski, the Chief Commandant of Police was scheduled to testify in front of the parliamentary committee for special services. He was among 10 best informed people in Poland, and his testimony was supposed to confirm or negate Janusz Kaczmarek’s accuses for the government of illegal surveillance (including tapping phones, checking billings, following, etc.) and of using the prosecutor’s office for fighting political opponents in general. Given his extensive knowledge everyone was expecting the same kind of information as Kaczmarek provided: dates, facts, whom to interrogate and which documents to check, to confirm his testimony. Unfortunately, he can now only testify in front of the prosecutor - today Kornatowski, Kaczmarek as well as Jaromir Netzel (the head of PZU - National Insurance Company) were arrested by ABW (Internal Security Agency, a counterpart of American NSA). All opposition politicians call this a coup. We in PolishPolitics.com can only repeat that under this government we no longer believe in coincidences. So the scenario for the following days is as follows: all three men will be arrested for 3 months, they will not be allowed to testify in front of the parliamentary committee (though it is possible Marek Dochnal, connected to SLD was interrogated by such committee after he was arrested), Mr Ziobro will organize a press conference and cry out loud how great criminals Kornatowski, Kaczmarek and Netzel are, Mr Jarosław Kaczyński will organize another press conference where he will say exactly the same, and both of them will swear to God that the prosecutor’s office is totally independent from them…
Ryszard Nowak: while most of you aren’t familiar with this name, remember not to spell it next to any heavy music lover in Poland. Mr Nowak, a former UP (Working Union) member of the parliament, is now a head of the Nationwide Comitee for Fighting Sects. As his achievements in the fighting sets field were becoming more and more questionable, Mr Nowak started a new warfare: fighting against Satanism. More than 8 months ago he appealed for banning satanic outlooks (!) - of course he was laughed over, but that proposal is actually a part of the penal code novelization, luckily it seems that it won’t live to be adopted. Unfortunately for some unknown reason Mr Nowak has been much more successful in convincing local councils to force cancellation of heavy and dark metal bands’ concerts. During the last two years he managed to take at least 6 big names off the post, including Dark Funeral in Łódź; Mayhem, Marduk and Impaled Nazarene at Black Metal Festival in Warsaw; this year he almost called off Portuguese giants Moonspell. Earlier this year he announced that he’s working on a list of satanic bands that local councils should ban. Sadly, councils have shown great interest in this index, mostly stating: “finally we will know whom to ban”. This concerns local councils of all political options, except for SLD (the leftists). Of course he faced an enormous amount of criticism over the Internet, yet his comment says it all: “After we announced that we were working on the list, we unexpectedly encountered fierce criticism of many web surfers. This was a well-organised assault: petitions against the list have been created, attempts were made to ridicule and discredit us on discussion boards and besides satanic contend was spread. We found out that while there have been hundreds of such attacks, they were all conducted from a few dozens of unique PCs. We cannot exclude the possibility of these assaults to be inspired by two or three groups that support the Satanists’ cause.“. Of course Nowak did not leave these unanswered, he collected the posts, their author’s nicks and IP addresses which he afterwards attached to a report. He said he was going to send it to the Internet moderators (he probably meant those guys from China who throw people into jails for typing “Amnesty International” or “Human rights” into their search engines). He relies on their help: “We hope that these users won’t be let into the open discussion forums by moderators, as they might spread satanic content“. The highlighted phrases have been chosen by us as best describing this man’s intelligence.
Should any of you be interested in getting into Nowak’s list, just sign a petition against using this moron’s list of satanic bands. here. [If any of you has problems with understanding the boxes, just leave a comment and we will help you.]
The press office of PiS (Law and Justice) has recently informed the public that member of the parliament Halina Molka, previously representing Samoobrona (Self-Defense) joined their party on Thursday. We all know how such attempts ended up previously, therefore Arkadiusz Czartoryski, the secretary general of PiS club was very proud to announce that their current number of deputies counts 152. He also added: “We are the only club in the Sejm that systematically increases in number“. Mr Czartoryski has either a really vivid imagination or very serious problems with mathematics. As National Electoral Committee states, after the 2005 election PiS inserted 155 deputies into the Sejm. We must admit that from 155 to 152 is indeed a significant increase.
We all know that Jarosław Kaczyński hates flying, however his brother is opposite in preference. As Super Express reports, the recent weeks must have been tough for him - on one hand, he was on holiday, yet due to obvious reasons his presence was required in Warsaw. That’s where the modern means of transport come in hand. According to the daily, from 2nd till 19th August the governmental plane and helicopter covered the route between Gdańsk/Hel and Warsaw 8 times. In most cases additional flights should be borne in mind as after bringing their passengers to destination places the machines flew back to the capital, or flew to the northern coast to board them. Sometimes the president used the helicopter on the whole route, but sometimes the helicopter flew all the way before the plane to take him from Gdańsk to his holiday site on Hel (where there’s no airport for large planes).
Faced with such reports it’s hard to avoid recalling the twins’ criticism of the former leftist government for “exceptionally high cost of using the governmental holiday sites”, which at the beginning of his capaign Jarosław Kaczyński promised to sell, by the way…
On today Zbigniew Ziobro’s press conference we’ve just learned, that 19 years ago voivod prosecutor’s office noted Janusz Kaczmarek’s untrue information about his familiar and occupational status, therefore disqualifying him as an employee of the justice system. Therefore, we’d like to sum up what we’ve recently learned about Janusz Kaczmarek:
has a very bad professional record and shouldn’t work in the justice system
was a member of Polish United Workers’ Party showing “exemplary ideological stance”
is a member of the plot
warned the leftists against the rightists
plots to abolish the government of 4th RP
Now that is a true black character. But let’s take a look at our list of Mr Kaczmarek’s career points, in chronological order:
became the general prosecutor, Lech Kaczyński’s deputy (2001)
became the general prosecutor (2005)
became the Minister of Interior (2007)
became a member of the National Security Council (2007)
If that’s the career such a communist henchman can do under the wings of PiS, then we wonder what do they do with “immaculate people”… As an infamous Internet anecdote quotes: “I’m not unhappy with the twins, I am glad they are not triplets. Otherwise I’d be anxious about the conclave result”.
Yesterday, when the reigning party attempted to make a motion dismissing the judges of the Constitutional Tribunal (they made themselves unpopular with the president when they decided to suspend four district judges whom he had nominated earlier), the opposition defended the democracy by obstructing the podium. Then the reigning party threw their fists in the air. The video is shown below.
It’s a relief that these scenes took place in Bolivia. But the description, except the last sentence, sounds anxiously familiar. While most members of our parliament favour peace before war, PiS should remember that when the peace means humiliation and insult, they might choose the latter…
While describing some recent affairs we compared the stances of clergy and laymen and usually accepted the argument of the latter. Yet today, having read about the decision of the prosecutor’s office in Toruń who refused to institute proceedings against Tadeusz Rydzyk we think that this time it’s the secular institution who made fools out of themselves. While dismissing charges of insulting the president for us makes some sense (the word “cheat”, widely quoted by the media, wasn’t actually said on the tapes), when it comes to the other charge we even did a favour to the prosecutors and quoted the penal code paragraph about denying the Jedwabne pogrom… But did any reasonable person expect any other decision? And why should he, as it has been recently described by Kaczmarek, Kornatowski i Parulski (who are in trouble for expressing their opinion, especially the last one) that the prosecutor’s offices in Poland all conform to one person. The person who is a frequent guest in Rydzyk’s media, who expressed his opinion about this matter on a press conference, therefore giving a sentence; finally, this person desperately needs those few hundred thousand votes from the members of the biggest sect in Poland. Our respect goes to bishop Tadeusz Pieronek, who was surprised with the prosecutors’ decision and noted the the episcopate is going to continue their proceedings against Rydzyk anyhow.
Donald, don’t even think about forming a coalition with b****rds like these.
If any member of the opposition thought that Janusz Kaczmarek and Andrzej Lepper would be the main force to uncover the secrets of PiS’s totalitarian governing, he is now disappointed as the above two are doing everything to lose their credibility. Kaczmarek lost the first point to Ziobro when on 17th August he first stated that 6 years ago he informed the President Lech Kaczyński about his membership in PZPR (Polish United Workers Party - the communist party, reigning 1956-1989), adding that he never denied it and that this information is present in his personal file, held by the Ministry of Justice. Three days later he denied being a member of PZPR on a press conference, and later that day, in Monika Olejnik’s TV show on TVN24 he was shown his personal survey where, in the “Membership in PZPR” box, he wrote “Candidate” (link). His reaction was predictable: “I have no idea, why I wrote that”. We hope that the 6 hours of today’s interrogation in front of the Parliamentary Committee for Special Services turns out to be more fruitful that the last couple of weeks in terms of the information provided by Mr Kaczmarek.
The second point was relatively easier to earn, as today the prosecutor’s office in Warsaw announced that there are no signs of manipulation in the recording, where Lepper claims to have been warned by Ziobro. As well as of course no clues of such warnings. That was also bound to happen; yet not only due to Lepper’s reputation and credibility, but also because of our certainty that the prosecutors won’t take any action against their supervisor… To be continued.
If you are bored with Polish politics, we have an entertainment for you. Select some events and quotes, and then try to arrange them into mathematical equations. You will be amazed with your result, such as the one below:
(Jarosław Kaczyński: “Civic Platform are too dependent on Germans. They are too strongly associated with the European People’s Party, which these days unfortunately means accepting the German domination. And every domination is extremely harmful to Poland and to Europe”.
+
Roman Giertych: “If Donald agrees upon the election with PiS in power, he will be a complete sucker. This campaign is going to be full of catches, leaks and special services in the background.”)
*
Jarosław Kaczyński: “[My brother and Donald Tusk] gave each other their word. They agreed upon 21st October as the date for the election. Not forming an investigative committee is a natural consequence of this agreement, as in so little time and in the crossfire of the electoral campaign no parliamentary investigation can be held.”
